Introduction:
G'Day Mate! Have you ever heard of the 'land
down under'? Do you know where it is? Do you know which country
has people that really talk like that? Well get ready skipper! You are
about to find out! You are on your way to explore this wonderful land called
Australia. Did you know that this is the only country in the
world that is also considered a continent? It is filled with wide open
spaces, and some people live hundreds of miles from the nearest town.
There are many fun and exciting things for us to learn about the place
that is also called 'the land down under.' Good luck and have fun!
Task:
Your task is to explore 5 topics (plus
1 on the Great Barrier Reef) on the continent of Australia with a partner.
You will decide what you want to explore and learn about this wonderful
country. Remember...you need to explore 6 topics all together.
Some of the things you might want
to become familiar with are the sports that are played there, the olympics
2000 event in Sydney, the music, the games that are played there, the unusual
animals that you would see in Australia, the geography, climate, the different
schools in Australia, and types of food eaten there. You might also want
to explore how the Aborigines and the Australians are different.
Please remember that you are to enjoy
your adventure! G'Day Mate!
Process:
-
The pre activity study for Australia will begin with a discussion
on this country with our famous in house teacher, Mrs. Ginsberg. She will
gladly tell you about her personal adventures to this wonderful continent.
-
Your classroom teacher will then break the class up
so that everyone has a partner to work with.
-
From the list of possible topics you and your partner will
select five topics, along with the Great Barrier Reef, to explore on the
'land
down under.' Have a G'Day Mate!
-
By clicking on the template,
you will you will see a series of questions that will help you through
your exploration on each of the separate topics. Remember to chose
five topics along with the Great Barrier Reef.
-
You will be given
two weeks to find your resources using the links below. The
computer resources will be explored in the computer lab and in the classroom.
Use the guided template to know what questions you need to answer for each
category that you choose to write on.
Your
answers should be written down on the template
guide , or your teacher will have you write down your information on
index cards. The following will be accomplished with the guided instruction
of both the computer teacher and the classroom teacher. However, keep all
work in your folder!
-
Once your information is gathered it will be published in
book format using the program called Easy Book. Once again,
this task will be completed both in the computer lab and in the classroom.
